Two women, convicted of killing a mother and her 12-year-off daughter, have been handed hefty sentences in the Durban High Court.

Two women, convicted of killing a mother and her 12-year-old daughter, have been handed hefty sentences.
The Durban High Court on Thursday sentenced Slindile Pamela Zamisa, 45, to two life sentences and 16 years imprisonment, and her daughter Andile Pollet Zamisa, 25, to life and 16 years imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of a woman and her 12-year-old daughter in October 2020.
The two women were convicted of defeating the administration of justice when the court heard that they had concealed evidence by removing the deceased from where they were killed and disposing of their bodies in another area, said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara.
The two women were found to have murdered Smangele Simamane and 12-year-old Sbongakonke Mthembu, who lived in the same neighbourhood as them.
"On the day of the offence, they invited Smangele and Sbongakonke to their house under the pretence of wanting to resolve a dispute between Sbongakonke and one of their younger family members. On their arrival, the women accused them of killing their male relative, Bheki Ngcobo, by using witchcraft," said Ramkisson-Kara.
She added:
They kept the deceased in their home for several hours, torturing them during this time. Smangele in particular, was assaulted and had boiling water poured into her ears and all over her body. After they were killed, their bodies were disposed of in the KwaDabeka area.
The women's two co-accused pleaded guilty to the charge facing them and gave testimony in court.
Slindile was sentenced to life imprisonment for each of the murders, five years imprisonment for each of the two counts of kidnapping, and six years imprisonment for defeating the administration of justice. The court ruled that the lesser charges would run concurrently with the life term.
The life sentences, however, would run consecutively.
Andile was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, five years imprisonment for each of the two counts of kidnapping, and six years imprisonment for defeating the administration of justice.
The court ruled that the lesser charges would run concurrently with the life imprisonment sentence, resulting in an effective term of life imprisonment.
