Police confiscated cash after arresting four men for the kidnapping of a 39-year-old man in Joostenberg Vlakte on Wednesday night.
Four men were arrested in Kraaifontein yesterday evening after they kidnapped a motorist in the vicinity of Joostenberg Vlakte.
According to police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi, at about 18:30, a white Toyota Quantum with four passengers tried to stop the 39-year-old man who was driving a bakkie.
“When he [the driver of the bakkie] failed to stop, the driver [of the Toyota Quantum] chased after him and forced him off the road. Four unknown men approached him, demanding cash. The suspects took the driver and drove him to a nearby bank where he was forced to withdraw cash,” says Swartbooi.
Meanwhile, the other men who were with the victim in the bakkie contacted the police.
“Kraaifontein police responded and found the Toyota Quantum with all four suspects [still] in it parked near Sandringham Road.
“They searched the vehicle and confiscated cell phones and cash. Further interrogation led to the recovery of the keys to the complainant’s vehicle which were found in the possession of one of the passengers.”
The four men were arrested and detained on charges of kidnapping, extortion and possession of presumed stolen property and are expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court.
