Last week, eThekwini municipality announced the reopening of more beaches and at least 21 swimming pools across the city following improvements in water quality. The announcement came in the wake of reports on the state of Durban’s beaches. City spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela said that the decision to open beaches was taken after experts conducted water tests which confirmed that beach water quality had improved to an acceptable standard and that they are constantly monitoring water quality at all beaches to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. As holiday revelers prepare to take time out and visit places such as Durban, we talk to the City about the state of beaches and public pools in the municipality.
