Africa Centre: Pandemic disruptions push millions of Nigerians into hunger

Amidst inflation, insecurity and the dwindling value of the naira, the hike in prices of food has made life increasingly difficult for the average Nigerian. Nigeria is reported to be facing food security that is compounded by the COVID-19 global pandemic and its effect on the food value chain the country. The pandemic has significantly disrupted value chains across the country including people’s ability to produce, process and distribute food. The disruption to agricultural productivity and markets has a knock-on negative impact on livelihoods, especially amongst vulnerable households. In this conversation, we speak to the Lagos Food Bank about food demand and security in Nigeria.
